Pregnancy brings with it a new bundle of joy in your life, but at the same time, it also brings with it many unwanted changes to the body. Mommy makeover surgery is a composite set of procedures which aims at fixing any of these issues — depending upon the nature of procedures and the condition of the body, this may be done in a single sitting or multiple sittings.

Mommy Makeover

Breasts –

Breasts gain volume during pregnancy. Post-pregnancy and breastfeeding, some women may witness weight loss, which may lead to loss of volume and increased droopiness and sagginess, while some women may struggle with the increased volume which causes shoulder and back pain.

Breast augmentation, breast lift or breast reduction may be opted for to fix the concerned issue.

Buttocks –

Much like the breasts, women may gain weight on their buttocks during pregnancy, and weight loss may cause sagginess to the buttocks. Women may opt for liposuction or buttock augmentation and lift to fix these changes.

Abdomen –

A mother’s womb is a baby’s first home, and as it grows it learns to makes space for itself. In the process, it stretches out the mother’s abdominal muscles. Once the baby is out, the muscles lose their elasticity, which may lead to hanging skin and muscles on the abdomen. Abdominoplasty helps bring back the elasticity and pull the muscles together for a toned look.

Genitalia –

In case of natural birth, the vaginal canal stretches itself to make way for the baby. This may lead to not only undesirable aesthetic changes to the genitalia, but at times there may be functional issues as well — loss of sexual pleasure or pain during physical exercise and intercourse. Female Genital rejuvenation or vaginoplasty helps address these issues.

Other Body Parts –

Since women can gain up to 25 kg of weight during pregnancy, it is natural for some of this weight to convert into fat deposits on the breast, lower back, love handles, flanks, thighs etc. Women may opt for liposuction to get rid of the excess fat for a leaner look.

However, it is important to remember –

  1. All these procedures work upon your natural body structure. While they may work on enhancing that structure for a more aesthetically pleasing look to the different body parts, they do not change the fundamental body structure.
  2. Procedures like liposuction cannot remove an unlimited amount of the excess fat stored in different body parts. Therefore, if there is a large amount of excess fat, then this procedure will help in toning, but not necessarily take you to the desired look. Some fat may still be left in inaccessible areas after the procedure.
  3. It is up to the patient to maintain the results of mommy makeover procedure through lifestyle choices — another pregnancy too soon after the procedure or weight gain may reverse the results of the procedure.

Therefore, mommy makeover procedure cannot give you a new body altogether, rather, it works at reversing the undesirable changes to your body during pregnancy, while maintaining your natural body structure.
